About This Blog

Thanks for stopping by the blog
of singer/songwriter Dan Coyle;
I'll keep this little gem up to date
while on the road, writing, recording,
and meeting my fans at shows.
This may give you some insight
into just how weird I can be - and
all of the weird things I enjoy.
There will be stories, poems,
rants, musings, and other forms of
writing that my feeble vocabulary
cannot contend with.  Hope you
enjoy!

From Prague to Paris
We spent nine wonderful days in Prague, including a great show at the
Mosaic House on my birthday!  Seeing all there was to see in Prague,
we scooted ourselves to the airport to catch a flight to Paris, and here
we are.

It’s not really possible to describe how incredibly beautiful Prague is,
so I am not going to try.  To top it all off, the photos, as wonderful as
they are, still do not do the amazing architecture and feel of the city
justice.

My birthday show at the Mosaic House was really a great time.  It’s a
nice big room with a lot of people hanging out.  After the show, I met
some new Dan Coyle fans, signed their CDs and had a surprise birthday
cake from the woman who produces the shows; YaY for cake!

I now sit in Paris, one of my favorite cities of the world.  We walked a
legitimate fifteen miles today seeing sights (including the Eiffel Tour) and
being all-around good tourists.

Our french seemed much better until we arrived in France and had to
attempt to converse in said language; so far, a bit of a failure, but I’m
not giving up yet!

We are going to spend about six weeks relaxing in the south of France
until June.  I’m going to take this time to write songs for a new EP
which I will likely record and release in Berlin, sometime around August
so keep your peepers peeled for that one!

I am thoroughly worn out from the tour and sightseeing today (yes I
know you feel sorry for me) but I will post again soon; as always, thanks
for stopping by!

Encore, Encore!
We traveled to Kiel, Germany to play a show at The Prinz Willy.  I was

expecting to have a great show, but I never anticipated what actually
went down.

See photos relating to this blog here.

We arrived at the Prinz Willy around 6pm to load in our equipment and
merchandise.  The venue was intimate, seating about 40 folks, with
room for another 30 to stand; I love venues like that.

The owner, Willy, greeted us and immediately made us feel warm and
fuzzy inside.  He is such a happy and friendly guy, we couldn’t help
but smile when we were around him.

Willy let us know that three radio stations had played some tracks and
promoted the show, which was very cool.  He gave us some beer, we did
our sound-check, and began our two-hour wait until the show would
actually begin.

One by one, or two by two, people started to roll into the Prinz Willy.  By
the time 8pm came around (the start time that was advertised for the
show) it was nearly a full house, with several people having to stand
because there were no more seats.

Willy had told me to start at 830pm.  As I was checking the clock every
three minutes or so, once I saw 828pm I ran up on stage.  The room was
full and the minute I took the stage, the crowd began to quiet down.

I proceeded to play a one-hour set, most of which were songs that the
fine folks of Kiel, Germany have never heard.  The entire time they
remained quiet, attentive, engaged, and an overall joy to play for.

I decided to end the night with “I Adore You” because there was a fan of
mine who had come from one hour away, and I knew that that was one of
her favorite  songs of mine.  I played my song, finished my set, and stood
there for a very long time as applause continued to rumble.

I stepped off the stage, looked at Willy and he said, “Will you play
another song?  They want another song.”  He was right, I was already
off stage for a few moments and they were applauding louder than
ever.

I jumped back up onto the stage with hands still clapping and some folks
yelling, “one more song!”  Not being too shy, I decided to oblige the crowd.
I played one final song and thanked the audience profusely for being so
stunningly incredible.

Germany was good to us, very, very good to us and we can’t wait to go
back.  Kiel, Germany and the Prinz Willy really brought things to a new
level and it feels as if there is, yet again, another dawn approaching to
clear the fog and dry the mist.

Next stop, Prague.

King of Germany Reigns
Another week in Germany has passed, another great show with an
amazing crowd.  Germany certainly has treated us like Kings and for
that I am so grateful.

See photos relating to this blog post here.

We spent a few days in Berlin before having to travel to Unna to play
a show.  We had met a guy our first week here that gave us some free
tickets to Sea Life, a funny little aquarium in Berlin.  We packed up our
things and headed out to redeem those free tickets.

As with many tourist traps, the first thing they make you do when you
walk in the door is take a photo with a funny statue, which they later
plan to sell to you at an unreasonable price; me being an exceptionally
unreasonable man, I never give into the pressure of procuring this
“souvenir.”

All-in-all Sea Life was a fun time, and I’m glad that we got to see it.

A few days later we packed some things and headed from Berlin to
Unna, a sleepy little town about 500km West of Berlin, to play one
show.  Much like Sarstedt, it was a charming little town, with a nice
market and some very friendly people.

Being that it was St Patrick’s Day, the bar was full of Germans drinking
way too much Guinness with green shirts and dyed hair; who would’ve
thought?  It was a great day to play a concert though.  The venue was
packed full of very fun and friendly folks and it was a very good show,
with some equally interesting times afterwards.

Having spent the night in Unna, it was once again time to return to Berlin.
We had originally arranged to ride with a guy who was driving from
Dortmund to Berlin, and he canceled on us at the last minute.  Not cool
Lukas.

Refusing to have our cages rattled we found a cafe with free wifi and
were lucky enough to find a new ride; but only because the guy who
was driving, had two people cancel on him 30 minutes before.  Phew!

So here we are, sitting and relaxing in Berlin, ready to head to
Teufelsberg Tower and then to Kiel for yet another show tomorrow.

Thank you Germany, keep it coming!
